The River Junction work camp in Chattahoochee, Fla., will close on February 1, but the news isn't all bad.

77 jobs will be lost there, and 736 inmates will be moved to other facilities within the state.

The Department of Corrections said full-time employees will have the option to transfer, as well.

However, that means workers who normally support local businesses will be spending their money elsewhere.

"Hopefully the next 10 days, two weeks, we will be able to put some dollar figures to what it might do or what the experts think it might do, uh, but I'm sure it's gonna have an effect again on our small businesses which is, that's all we have here in Chattahoochee, are small businesses," said city manager Elmon Garner.

Garner says most of the workers don't live in town, but they do frequent the restaurants and shops.

He says he plans to meet with the warden at River Junction to see if there's any way to keep the jobs in Chattahoochee.
