Dothan, AL - Retired police officers received a good meal in Houston County Tuesday.

As part of National Police Week, the Houston County Sheriff’s Office held a luncheon to honor them.

This is the second year for the gathering.

Houston County Sheriff Andy Hughes said it’s one way he can honor those who gave twenty to thirty years of their life to public service.

Attendees were happy to be there and said it felt like a family reunion.

“It means a lot to see these people that you’ve spent a lifetime with. It’s a lot like being married. You’re married to the people you work with every day. They’re just part of your life. Then when you get away from each other you don’t see each other every day. It’s just wonderful to get here and hug their necks and shake their hands. We really enjoy it,” said Eulan Holland, Retired Dothan Police Sergeant.

Hughes said this will become an annual event held on the Tuesday during National Police Week.
