Restored Funding Gives Disabled Veterans Vital Transportation

MONTGOMERY – Lieutenant Governor Kay Ivey announced restored funding for hospital transportation services for disabled veterans.

Last Friday, she made the announcement while speaking at the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Department of Alabama and DAV Auxiliary Joint State Convention in Montgomery.

The DAV gives disabled veterans free transportation to VA medical facilities in the region. Because of the economic downturn in 2009, funding for the program was cut.

The program has continued thanks to volunteers from around the state and donations.

The budget appropriated $120,000 for the program. The funds will cover the cost to manage the vehicles and for fuel costs.
