Search Continues for Fatal Shooting Suspect

Houston County, AL - Law enforcement continues to search for a man suspected in a Wednesday afternoon fatal shooting in Cowarts.

Houston County Sheriff's officials were dispatched to the shooting that killed one man at around 6 p.m. near the intersection of North Broad Street and Jordan Avenue.

Officials are looking for Michael Allen Tharp. Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd identifies the victim in Wednesday's fatal shooting as 68 year-old Joseph Bernard Hendley. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Police believe he is occupying a white Ford F-150 pickup truck with a chrome toolbox in the back. The truck has an Alabama tag on the front and a decal on the back window reads "". The truck's license plate is AL Handicapped license plate of 0H1T8.

Tharp is still believed to be armed and should be considered dangerous.

Police are on the scene investigating the cause of the shooting that killed one man.
It happened at the corner of North Broad and Jordan Avenue in downtown Cowarts.
It is believed that the shooter is still at large and armed.
