Proposed Drug Treatment Facility Creates Controversy

A proposed drug treatment facility at the "old" Florala Memorial Hospital has created controversy along the Covington-Walton County line.

Faye Fountain often baby sits her grandchildren. She lives across the street from the "old"Florala Memorial Hospital which may be transformed into a private drug treatment facility. In addition, a half-way house for post treatment is planned in a residential neighborhood. There's many questions.

"My first concern is the security. are they going to depend on our city police or will they have in-house security. we have children here so my first concern is the security," says Fountain.

The city's planning and zoning commission will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. February 20th at Florala City Hall.

Both those for and against the drug treatment facilities are encouraged to attend.
