Ice - "We don’t ever see it," Dothan Utility Line Crewman Kevin Johnson said.

Kevin Johnson has been working for Dothan Utilities for 19 years.

"We haven't been through the ice yet so a lot of us haven't been there. We have a lot of young guys so it'll be interesting," Johnson said.

So far - "We're just making sure all of the equipment is ready to go. There's not much you can do to prepare because you don't know until it gets here," Johnson said.

If you see a downed power line, call your local power company, the police or fire department.

"Please stay away from any downed power lines that is imperative. Don't drive over down power lines, always assume that a down power line is a live line. Don't attempt to remove anything that's caught like a limb or even an animal," Alabama Power Spokesperson Linda Brannon said.

There are some things you should have on hand, in case the lights go out.

“Make sure you have a manual can opener, water, extra blankets and one other detail is a dc cell phone charger. Make sure you've got a way to charge it that's not at your house," Mark Kight with Dothan Utilities said.

If any Alabama Power customers experience a power outage, the best way to report it is to call their reporting system at 1-800-888-2726.
