MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- The last defendant awaiting sentencing in Alabama's gambling corruption case has asked a judge to delay her case.
Former Country Crossing casino lobbyist Jennifer Pouncy is scheduled for sentencing Aug. 29 in Montgomery, but her attorney asked U.S. District Judge Keith Watkins to postpone it until after Sept. 24 to allow more time to study a presentencing report prepared by federal probation officers. Watkins will talk with attorneys Monday.
Attorney Tommy Spina also asked Watkins to transfer Pouncy's sentencing to U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson. Spina sought the move because Thompson sentenced the other three people who pleaded guilty in the case. But Watkins declined in a one-sentence order.
Pouncy pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy in 2010. She has admitted offering bribes to legislators to support pro-gambling legislation.
