Currently, Alabamians are vying for concealable pistols. Local gun shops said smaller weapons have become their best-sellers. Under Alabama’s new gun law, gun owners can bring their guns to most public places, if they have a concealed carry permit
Heath Moorehead works at Sportsman’s Outfitters in Dothan. He said, “It’s because, the way things are going these days, it's better to have something on you and not need it, than to need it and not have it.”
These models are popular because they are easily concealed with a pistol permit. They fit in pockets, or purses. Gun shops said they are seeing as many women as men lock and load.
However, the new gun law might not have had an effect on everyone’s purchase.
“A lot of people in South Alabama have the concealed carry permits anyway. So the new law didn't really affect them,” said Moorehead.
Yet, in a few weeks, a new best-seller will be the target.
"We're looking forward to a good hunting season and good sales in the deer rifles and the shotguns for dove and quail,” said Ronald Fuller, owner of Southern Outdoor Sports in Dothan.
