With the thousands of cars expected on the road this Memorial Day weekend, police in the Wiregrass are preparing accordingly.
Officers will be strictly enforcing traffic laws and looking out for drunk drivers. Police say they want the holiday weekend to be as safe as possible, and for everyone to remember what the holiday represents.
"Memorial Day is for remembrance of all the personnel who
gave their lives, made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. If you visit a national cemetery or veterans cemetery sometime, you’ll really grasp how important and significant this day is," said Sergeant Tim Ellison of the Dothan Police Department.
Ellison also says it's important to allow yourself adequate time when coming to a stop when traffic is bumper to bumper.
