Picnic Gets Community Involved in Local School

Dothan, AL - They say life's no picnic, but for Highland Elementary School students it was on Saturday.

They held one for the community Saturday afternoon.

In attendance were Alabama State Representatives Paul Lee and Donnie Chesteen.

They presented the school with a check for a little more than $2,000 from the community grant foundation.

"I think it's very important that they know we're not only a good school. We are a great school. We can't be a great school without getting the community involved. This is all about getting our neighborhood and our community involved. If you look around you can probably see there's about 500 people here. It grows more and more every year," said Highlands Elementary School Principal Vicki Davis.

Now they didn't just hand the grant money over. Students had to throw water balloons at the principal and teachers in exchange for the money.
