Peanut Proud Preps Underway

The signs are up and the peanuts are out and locals know this means one thing, Peanut Proud is near.

"We know it's coming everybody expects it to happen but when the peanuts get on the square all the excitement builds," said Peanut Proud Coordinator Lea Jean Manry.

That excitement is thanks to lots of work behind the scenes.

"A lot goes into planning peanut proud it doesn't just start close to time it's all year long."

The festival started in 2009 and offers a day of fun.

"It's like a family reunion right here on lawn of the courthouse square," said Manry.

Not only is the peanut proud festival exciting for residents it's also a good time for local businesses.

"We have to go in and pick out what were going to put on clearance and we have to remark everything because we want that day to be special," said Pernickety Manager Krystale Sealy.

With hundreds out and about that means more shopping.

"We're actually having a huge sidewalk sale and were putting a lot of stuff on clearance that day," said Sealy.

Businesses owners say the sidewalk deals have a big impact on sales.

"Actually our sales go up during peanut proud."

The peanut proud festival is march 23rd and lasts from 7 a.m. -11 p.m.

Several entertainers are set to take the stage all throughout the day.
