Part of highway 231 has been re-named in honor of fallen Dale County bus driver Charles Poland.
He was killed on January 29th of last year when a man boarded his bus demanding children.
Poland refused Jimmy Lee Dykes' demand and was fatally shot.
Dykes then took a little boy hostage, holding him in an underground bunker for nearly a week.
A half-mile stretch of highway 231 is now named the Charles Chuck Albert Poland Junior Memorial Highway.
The state senate passed a resolution last session to rename the road.
The one year anniversary of Poland’s death is next Wednesday.
A remembrance ceremony is planned on that day to honor his memory and heroic efforts.
It will be at Dale County High School in Midland City at 6 p.m.
Everyone is invited.
