Walton County Pet Fair This Saturday

June is national pet preparedness month and with that being said, a pet fair will be available to the community this Saturday.

A few panhandle organizations are coming together to educate pet owners on different ways to have an evacuation plan for their pets in case of an emergency. The fair will last from 9am to 12pm at the Alaqua Unleashed Park in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. A vet will be on-site micro-chipping pets at a discounted rate, all proceeds will go to the Alaqua Animal Refuge.

"It's important, it's an extremely important topic. It's a topic that with hurricanes, you've got to be prepared and not only from an individual standpoint but also from a pet standpoint because they are apart of the family and we're glad that we're able to get all of this information together for the public to come out and learn but have a good time too," said Catherine Rodriguez, the public information officer for the Walton County Sheriff's Office.

This event is being brought to the community by the Walton County Sheriff's Office, Walton County Emergency Management and the Alaqua Animal Refuge.
