Paint-N-Pork Fest April 19-20

MARIANNA– Jackson County’s largest festival, the Paint-n-Pork Fest by the Marianna Arts Festival, Inc., is set for April 19-20 at Citizen’s Lodge in Marianna.

The tenth annual festival opens to the public, Friday, April 19, at noon, with local and regional entertainment both days. Daily admission is $3 per person. Vendors may contact Alicia Hatcher at 850-718-7299 or visit

The festival continues Saturday, April 20, with hours from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. The 2Fit2Squeal 5K/10K Walk/Run, sponsored by Jackson Hospital, starts at 8 a.m. Entry fee is $17 before April 15 and $22 after April 16. More than a dozen pro barbecue teams are expected to enter competitions sanctioned by the Florida BBQ Association. The BBQ contest also is a qualifier for the Jack Daniel’s World Championship. For BBQ information, contact Richard Kunde at 209-2959 or e-mail

Thousands of dollars in prize money will be awarded in the Art Contest. Artists may enter in more than one category with a maximum of two entries per artist. Entry deadline is April 12. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department Car and Tractor Show to benefit the Florida Sheriffs’ Association Youth Ranches will be held Saturday morning. For entry information, contact Sheriff Lou Roberts at 482-9624 or Terry Allen at 263-4401.

The newest addition to this year’s contest is the Steak Cook-Off on Saturday. For $50, teams of 1 to 2 individuals, get free steaks to cook on the festival grounds. Chefs may use charcoal, wood, propane, or any other means of cooking to win the $250 prize.

Festival-goers will enjoy a variety of food offered by the various vendors, such as funnel cakes, corn-on-the-cob, chicken, hotdogs, hamburgers, barbecue, Asian cuisine and shaved ice.

Children’s activity coordinator Kristin Roberts has scheduled numerous activities including pony rides, train rides, a bounce house, giant slide, and face-painting.

Entertainment coordinators Cindy Smith and Ana Garcia Kent have scheduled constant and varied entertainment throughout the two-day event, including local school groups, dance groups and music of all types.

Street Corner Symphony will headline Street Corner’s early evening performance on April 20 will climax with a professional fireworks show sponsored by Marianna Toyota at approximately 8 p.m. Street Corner performed to a sold-out crowd in the Chipola Artist Series in September. Marianna High graduate John Martin performs with the male a cap¬pella group which gained national attention as a finalist on NBC’s “The Sing Off” in 2012. Martin sings many of the highest parts and also is one of the main arrangers for the group. A classically-trained tenor, Martin graduated from Marianna in 2005 where he was a member of the marching band and show choir.
