The Wiregrass Violent Crimes and Drug Task Force charged Corey Lavon Williams, 22, of Midland City with robbery and kidnapping in the first degree.

Williams was placed in the Dale County Jail without bond.

Ozark Police requested a response from the Wiregrass Violent Crimes and Drug Task Force for an investigation after they were notified of a possible Gill Drive robbery on Aug. 20.

After Task Force Agents completed their initial investigation, it was determined that the victim was confronted by two suspects, one of which was armed with a handgun. The suspects demanded money from the victim and when the victim was unable to comply with the suspects demands the victim ordered to call his girlfriend and tell her to give the suspect money.

While the suspect held the victim at gunpoint, the victim saw a possible opportunity for escape and the victim engaged the suspect in a violent struggle.

The victim was able to flee the residence and go to a neighboring residence to summon law enforcement.

Ozark Patrol Officers located one suspect on their way back to the Gill Drive address and conducted a traffic stop. The suspect was taken into custody.

During the investigation, law enforcement was notified that a person had arrived at the emergency department of Dale Medical Center with injuries consistent of an assault. Upon arrival of law enforcement it was discovered that this was the other suspect involved in the robbery.

The suspect had driven himself to the medical facility and was later transported to a Dothan hospital in serious condition. During the investigation, agents did recover the weapon used in the robbery as well as the money taken during the crime.

Authorities arrested Quamell Rashad Crittendon, 20, of Ozark with robbery and kidnapping, both in the first degree. He has been placed in the Dale County Jail without bond.

Kidnapping and robbery charges are pending against the second suspect. His name is being withheld until his discharge from the hospital and arrest.
