UPDATE: Suspect Identified in Opp Club Shooting

Opp police say an Elba man is charged with a pre-dawn murder. 23-year old Kanavis Malik Cole will be charged with murder and attempted murder. Demetrice Hines was fatally shot and four others received non life threatening injuries in an early morning shooting at the Little Harlem Club in Opp.


The deceased shooting victim has been identified as 20 year old Demetrice Hines of Opp.


Opp police say patrol officers determined after arriving on the scene that five victims had been transported by private vehicle to Mizell Hospital in Opp following the shooting.

The name of the person killed in the incident has not been released.

Opp police only identify him as a 20 year old male from Opp.

The names of the wounded have been released.

19 year old Quanisha Stoudemire of Opp was shot in the foot.

26 year old James Edwards of Opp was shot in the shoulder.

21 year old Kenyen Nettles of Evergreen was shot in the leg.

27 year old Tornesha Fate of Dothan was shot in the forearm.

Opp Police, the Covington County Sheriff's Office, the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Covington County District Attorney's Office are investigating.

Police say the violence erupted during a birthday party at the Little Harlem Club.

Police also say persons of interest are currently being interrogated in the case.


An early morning shooting in Opp has left one person dead.

The incident reportedly happened about 1:30 AM at the Little Harlem Club on Hardin Street.

Several victims were also wounded in the incident.

No names have been released.

The shooter is still at-large and authorities are continuing to search for the suspect.
