Ft. Walton Beach, FL – The Okaloosa County Tax Collector’s Office has teamed up with Donate Life Florida for National Donate Life Month during the month of April.
Tax Collector Ben Anderson says that through this partnership they hope to raise awareness, especially for those seeking to obtain their driver license. Anderson continues, “National Donate Life Month is celebrated throughout the month of April but we believe this is an important cause every month, so please don’t wait to renew your license!
Customers can give the Gift of Life anytime by signing up on the donor registry: www.DonateLife.org. This initiative is something we are committed to and hope that everyone learns the facts about organ and tissue donation.”
According to Danielle Cornell, Executive Director of Life Quest Organ Recovery Services, “There are more than 5,000 patients on the waiting list at transplant centers in Florida and each one is waiting for the Gift of Life. By documenting our decisions to become donors on Florida’s registry, we are making a commitment to help save lives.” In 2013, more than 24,000 patients nationally received life-saving organ transplants, 1,688 of whom were transplanted at Florida centers.
There are more than 120,000 patients on the national organ transplant waiting list, a list that grows by 18 patients per day.
Anderson contends, “It takes less than a minute to make a decision that could save someone’s life. I chose to provide the gift of life.” Agents of the Tax Collector’s Office have information to provide in each Branch, or visit www.OkaloosaTax.com and click on the link for Donate Life.
