Okaloosa County Deputy of the Year

A member of the OCSO Special Operations Traffic Unit who conducted 1,268 traffic stops and identified more than 1,600 traffic violations in 2012 is the agency's Deputy of the Year.
Deputy Mike Gallagher also responded to 110 traffic crashes, assisted 63 disabled motorists and frequently served warrants and made narcotics arrests while performing routine traffic enforcement stops.
A subject matter expert in traffic crash investigation and report completion, Deputy Gallagher is also a certified Traffic Homicide Investigator and a certified Child Passenger Safety Seat Technician. Despite his demanding schedule, he takes time to help parents make sure a child's car seat is properly installed and also to serve as an instructor for the Teen Driver Challenge Program.
Sheriff Larry Ashley says Deputy Gallagher's professionalism, reliability, and willingness to always go the extra mile helped make him a standout for 2012.
