Officials want to Remove Doug Tew Center's Tennis Courts

You could soon have a new place to picnic in Dothan.

Dothan Leisure Services wants to remove the tennis courts at the Doug Tew Center.

Officials say they want to replace them with a picnic pavilion.

The courts were built about 35 years ago, with state funds so city commissioners have to first give leisure services permission to make the request for the change to the state.

"What we see at the playground right now is that this is a very popular area for people to come play and picnic so we'd like to add to it by adding a picnic pavilion and we feel like it would get more use," said Kim Meeker.

Dothan city commissioners will vote at their meeting later this month.
