Officers Urge Road Safety During the Holiday Season

Police say traffic accidents will be up by 25-percent during the Thanksgiving holiday travel period, making it one of the most dangerous.
That's why officials are urging people to pay close attention to their driving.

"The holiday season does seem to bring out more traffic because people are trying to get from point A to point B."

"Motorist should be really cautious and heighten their driving skills and sense of awareness during the holiday times."

Even if you plan on staying in town the week of Thanksgiving, you should still be wary of traffic.

"Being aware of what's going on with the traffic issues on the circle or out on the gotta keep your eyes on the road because you just don't know what might be coming your way."

Officials say one of the busiest roadways during the holiday period will be Highway 231 North around Wiregrass Commons Mall.
So steer clear if you can.

"We have three lanes of traffic one way and three lanes of traffic the other way so that's six lanes that are wide open. If you know the area well, there are ways to go around the circle and still get from North to South and East to West.

A little anxiousness and expectancy can lead to a whole lot of aggressiveness.
So officials say to just relax and allow yourself plenty of time to get to your destination.

"You should exercise extra patience, leave in plenty of time, don't hurry yourself."

"Slow down, take your time, drive safely and have that time with your loved one."

And for those that can't remember to follow the rules of the road...

"There's a major possibility of obtaining a citation."

So slow down, buckle up and drive safely this holiday season.
