Officer Involved Shooting at Fort Walton Beach

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place during a deputy’s attempts to assist with a suicidal subject in the city of Fort Walton Beach.

The deputy had been summoned by a family member of the suicidal man around 5:30 Tuesday evening near the 400 block of Holmes Boulevard.

During an encounter with the armed subject, shots were fired and the individual was hit once in the shoulder. He was transported to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center with a non-life-threatening injury.

As part of the standard procedures for a use of force investigation, the deputy will be temporarily relieved of duty pending the investigation results. Additional information will be released at the appropriate time.
