Notable Home Video Releases – Week of 3/19/13: "The Hobbit," "Zero Dark Thirty," "Les Miserables"

Three major movies are hitting DVD and Blu-Ray this week, including the first part of a fantasy epic.

Here are some of the notable home video releases in the United States (Region 1) for the week of March 19th, 2013:

“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” (New Line/Eurpac, Rated PG-13, Blu-Ray/DVD) – Set before the smash-hit “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, the first of three movies based on “The Hobbit” novel is called “An Unexpected Journey.” Starring Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, and Richard Armitage, the tale focuses on Bilbo Baggins as he sets out on adventure with a set of dwarves and a powerful wizard. The special features include video blogs on the production of the film and trailers for both the movie and Lord of the Rings video games.

“Zero Dark Thirty” (Sony Pictures, Rated R, Blu-Ray/DVD) – Directed by Kathryn Bigelow, “Zero Dark Thirty” follows the story of the manhunt for the most wanted terrorist in modern history, Osama Bin Laden. The feature film stars Jessica Chastain and Chris Pratt. Extras include a variety of featurettes on the making of the film.

“Les Miserables” (Universal Studios, Rated PG-13, Blu-Ray/DVD) – Adapted many times in the past, Les Miserables” is a dark tale set in 19th century France about one policeman’s undying quest to find an ex-prisoner. The movie is primarily a musical and stars Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and Anne Hathaway. This movie doesn’t release on home video on the 19th as the two listed above, but instead on Friday the 22nd.
