"Not-So" Polar Plunge Held in Dothan

Dothan, AL - The Dothan Police Department held a polar plunge to benefit the Special Olympics Saturday.

A 5k run was held earlier, then participants plunged in to the wave pool.

Some were calling it the "not-so" polar plunge with unseasonably warm temperatures, but don't worry. The water was plenty cold.

"It's still about 80 degrees outside, but the water was about 50 degrees so it's still pretty cold. It's for a good cause," said Britni Connell, Recreation Leader for Water World.

Some of the participants told News 4 the water was ice cold, but they'd be willing to do it again.

Leaders hope this becomes an annual event. The aim to have 1,000 participants some day.
