No Foul Play Suspected in Death of Obie Dow Rice

TAYLOR, AL -- A medical examiner has determined no visible cause of death in the passing of Obie Dow Rice. The Taylor resident was found dead near his home on Thursday, April 24th.

The body has been sent to Montgomery for autopsy. A toxicology report will be performed to determine a possible cause of death. It could take six months for that report to be completed.

The Houston County Sheriff's Department had been searching for Rice for several days when his body was discovered by cadaver dogs about 50 yards from his home on South Park Avenue. The death was initially treated as a possible homicide.

A black male was taken into custody shortly after the discovery of the body, and he was initially considered a suspect. After further investigation, authorities determined the person in question stole $600 from Rice's home, but was not connected to Rice's death.

WTVY will update this story as more facts become available.
