District Attorney's officials in south Georgia say they will not pursue the death penalty against two people charged with killing a woman and dragging her body behind a pickup truck.

Toombs Judicial Circuit District Attorney Dennis Sanders says Ricky and Tina Wells -- both of whom pleaded not guilty Wednesday in the 2011 death of 36-year-old Jennifer Kitchens Wells -- will not face the death penalty.

Authorities say the woman was shot outside a McDuffie County convenience store then dragged for several miles into a neighboring county.

The Augusta Chronicle reports the victim was Ricky Wells' ex-wife and his girlfriend served as his accomplice.

Calls to the Well's attorneys were not answered Thursday.

Both are being held on $1 million bail, and the motive behind the attack remains unclear.
