No Charges for Florida Ex-Lawmaker

The Miami-Dade County State Attorney's Office released a memo Friday saying that former state Rep. Richard Steinberg of Miami Beach won't be prosecuted for stalking.

The memo concluded there wasn't enough evidence that Steinberg sent the texts maliciously.

The texts were sent in August and September 2011 from a phone traced to Steinberg to Assistant U.S. Attorney Marlene Fernandez-Karavetos, who is married to a fellow prosecutor. Steinberg is also married.

Steinberg resigned the seat he had held since 2008 after news reports surfaced in February about the texts.

Fernandez-Karavetsos told authorities she knew Steinberg only professionally.

Steinberg's attorney says he only meant to be playful and not threatening.
