No Budget Deal? No Pay for Congress

If lawmakers don't reach a budget deal, they won't get paid.

At least that's the idea House Republican leaders want to put to a vote next week.

They're pushing for a three-month extension of the debt limit with a requirement that both chambers pass a budget or go without pay.

House Speaker John Boehner wants to pursue strategies that obligate the Senate to join the House in confronting the government's spending problem.

The Senate hasn't passed a budget in four years.

The short-term extension strategy represents a departure from recent discussions.

Republicans had pushed that any increase in the debt limit must include spending cuts of the same size
