A Newville man has been charged with torturing and killing five dogs with an axe.
Henry County deputies arrested 38-year-old Dale Larson and his girlfriend, 40-year-old Anne Marie Kennedy after performing a welfare check on the couple’s children last week.
Investigators say Larson gave meth and marijuana to a teenage boy.
While police were searching the property, the boy showed them the graves of five dogs.
Police say his children witnessed him killing the dogs.
Larson was charged with five counts of felony cruelty to animals.
Kennedy and Larson are both charged with two felony counts of unlawful manufacturing a controlled substance, three felony counts of chemical endangerment of a child, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
Larson is being held at the Henry County jail on bail totaling $490,000.
Kennedy was released from custody after she posted $28,000 for bail.
