Adoption in Alabama could get easier for families in 2013. A new law aims to make adopting internationally go a bit smoother.
The law known as the “Karina Law” will cut out the re-adoption process where families have to go to probate court once back in Alabama with their new child. However, officials say that is only if they have the right paperwork.
Instead, families with the paperwork could go through the vital statistics department and mail in a form. Some of the documents required are: social security card, foreign birth certificate, and original documents related to the adoption.
Lastly, the parents must have a valid government picture identification card, and proof of residency.
