Neighborhood Kids Fun Day made a big splash at Johnson Homes in Dothan as volunteers held a water-filled celebration for less fortunate neighborhood children.
"We target the kids that don't get the time to go to the beach or to Water World for the summer."
The program goes through all five housing authorities Johnson, Martin, Mccrae, Henry Green and Ussery homes.
"It keeps them from doing a lot of things that we don't like them to be involved in. But this is something that is truly a blessing to have this for them because they really love it."
While at the event, underprivileged kids enjoyed everything from waterslides to free food.
"It's a lot of fun. We get to do a lot of activities and games and we eat lots of foods."
"The best time is when you slide down and splash in the water."
"It gives me a lot of memories."
"Some kids, they don't have the opportunity to go swimming."
Jasmine says the only time she can remember having this much fun is three years ago when her aunt took her to an amusement park.
"It's like one of those times where you can't imagine how fun it is. It's like so fun that you haven't had that much fun in a long time."
It's only a day, but it makes a big difference in a child's life, especially when it comes to making memories.
