FARGO, N.D. (AP) -- A Minnesota minister is retiring after serving as a volunteer chaplain for 33 years in Cass County, N.D.

The Rev. Curt Frankhauser was asked in 1979 to do his first death notification for the county sheriff's office. He hesitated, but decided to comfort family members of a man who died in a car accident in north Fargo. Soon after, he learned that his words had touched the man's family so much that his 16-year-old son began attending his church.

Frankhauser, who became known as "the prayer warrior," is now pastor of Maranatha Free Lutheran Church in Ulen, Minn. He received a gold watch upon retirement, just as a retiring deputy would.

Chief Deputy Jim Theson told The Forum that Frankhauser was always there to "answer the bell" and leaves a lasting legacy.
