Multiple Auto Burglaries Cause Concern in Walton County

By  |

There has been a series of seven car thefts in Walton County, Florida over the past week.

Victims are understandably upset but the Walton County Sheriff's Office says these burglaries could have been prevented if drivers would have done one simple thing.

"We've had vehicle burglaries, 9 times out of ten those vehicles are unlocked so the sheriff's office really
is trying to stress to everybody, whether you are a local that lives here or a somebody that's out of town to
please lock you car doors," said public information officer, Catherine Rodriguez.

All burglaries have taken place in Miramar Beach around the Scenic Gulf Area. In an effort to put a stop to more burglaries from happening, the sheriff's office has implemented a new program called HIDE, LOCK, TAKE.

"It's something that our crime prevention unit is very proactive in working with community members," said Rodriguez.

The sheriff's office also wants to remind citizens that it's ok to call and report any suspicious activity. Anybody with information about these vehicle burglaries could possibly receive up to $1000.

Emerald Coast Crime Stoppers can be reached at 850-863-TIPS. The HIDE, LOCK, take program is a nationwide program.
