DOTHAN, AL – This year’s new Mrs. Wesley Manor Mary Holt confessed she is not really a pageant person.
The staff nudged her into competing in this year’s pageant and it was a surprise to her when she won on May 13.
She was so excited about her new crown that she couldn’t wait to get in front of a mirror to see how she looked.
Mrs. Holt has only been a resident of Wesley Manor for eight months. Before moving to Wesley Manor, she said she had lost hope, but now Mrs. Holt is quite the social butterfly.
“This is my home,” Mrs. Holt said. “There are so many activities to enjoy at Wesley Manor. My life has changed; they make me feel loved. They are my family”.
The annual pageant is part of National Nursing Home Week and this year’s theme “Living the Aloha Spirit “ focuses on the meaning of patience, kindness, respect and compassion.
Pageant contestants’ questions focused on love, respect and joy. Tropical music and the “Aloha” theme filled Wesley Manor’s chapel for this special event.
Five residents competed and each of the beautiful ladies is a winner: Conella Eubanks, Margarita Garcia, Janice Ellison, Nancy Mitchell, and Mary Holt. Judges for the event were Friends of Wesley Manor auxiliary members: Joyce Plummer, Rita Chapman, Sierra Harris, and Teresa Lassiter.
The goal in long term nursing care is to always provide person-centered care in a harmonious, caring environment. Embracing this “Aloha-Centeredness” each day casts a warm glow throughout Wesley Manor for its residents and employees.
This is unlike what many previously thought of as “Grandma’s nursing home.” Today’s nursing home is person-centered for health, personal care, and spiritual enrichment.
