Did you know every 45 seconds someone in America has a stroke?

The Southeast Alabama Medical Center is looking to educate more people about the ailment.

The American Heart Association awarded the Medical Center with the Gold Plus Stroke Award.

It's given to hospitals that follow quality measures for 2-years.

Doctors say time is of the essence during a stroke.

"If the community is aware of what the signs and symptoms of a stroke are then we can get the patient in much quicker," said SAMC Medical Director of Radiology Services Dr. Stephen Fernandez.

Stroke symptoms are trouble walking, difficulty speaking, numbness on one side of the body, or trouble seeing in one or both eyes.
