MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- VictoryLand owner Milton McGregor plans to reopen his gambling facility in Shorter.
McGregor told WSFA-TV that it will be reopened soon. McGregor's attorney, Joe Espy, told the Montgomery Advertiser the facility should reopen before year's end.
VictoryLand was once the state's largest casino with more than 6,000 machines.
McGregor closed the casino in August 2010 after a crackdown by the governor's gambling task force. McGregor called his machines electronic bingo, but the task force labeled them illegal slot machines.
McGregor was acquitted in March of charges accusing him of bribing legislators to support pro-gambling legislation. He said at the time that he hoped to reopen.
VictoryLand recently had a liquor license approved in anticipation of reopening.
