Man Found Dead in Burning Car Identified

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama - Authorities said today they have identified a man found dead in a burning vehicle earlier this year.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 28-year-old Titus Johnson. Deputy Coroner Phillip Russell said Johnson's identity was confirmed through DNA analysis and comparison.

Johnson was found dead inside a burning vehicle in early May in the 5700 block of Avenue N. A resident who lives nearby spotted the flames and alerted authorities about 2:30 a.m.

When firefighters extinguished the blaze, they found the victim inside.

Fire officials said it appears the fire was intentionally set, and police said evidence at the scene indicated the death was a homicide.

Sgt. Sam Noblitt of the Birmingham police homicide unit said today police do not have a suspect in Johnson's death.
