Man Charged with Running Down Girlfriend with Car

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. (AP) -- A southwest Florida man is behind bars after authorities say he ran down his girlfriend with his truck, killing her after an argument.

Pinellas Park Police said 36-year-old Belinda Thomas and Luis Antonio Santiago Maldonado were arguing when she fled their house after midnight Saturday.

Authorities said the 48-year-old Santiago chased her in his vehicle, eventually hitting her in the road about two blocks from their house.

Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene.

Santiago fled the scene of the accident, but was taken into custody about five hours later by the SWAT team at a nearby home.

The investigation continues.
