DOTHAN -- They leave their trail all over people's cars, and will not get out of the way when they are mowing the lawn. These little pests are called Love Bugs and they have taken over the area.
The little black bugs can ruin the paint on vehicle's if the driver does not remove them after twenty-four hours. Their bodies are acidic and destroy the paint.
The common myth is that a Florida school brought them into the area, but officials said this is not true.
"A lot of people think that they ended up here because the University of Florida researchers released them to try to combat mosquitoes, that is a big myth," Alabama Cooperative Extension System Phillip Carter. "They actually migrated here out of Central America."
The Love Bugs are expected to leave at the end of this month.
