Local Restaurants Surviving Tough Oyster Season

DOTHAN, AL -- Several restaurants in Dothan showcase the traditionally rich supply of local oysters on their menus. However, this year has been difficult.

Local restaurant owners say this is the worst year for oysters yields they can ever remember.

It looks like another tough summer for oyster harvesting.

The daily oyster limit in Apalachicola bay is being reduced from 20 bags to eight.

Commercial oyster harvesting will be closed on Fridays and Saturdays.

Recreational harvesting will be limited to 5 gallons of oysters in the shell.

Despite the new limits, wiregrass oyster bars say the quality is still good, prices are just higher.

The new rules will be in place through the end of August.
