Local Chapter Helping Military Community

A non-profit here in the Wiregrass received a national honor for their efforts in helping our military community.

The Fort Rucker chapter of Army Aviation Association of America, or Quad-A, was named chapter of the year for 2012.

They are one of 69 chapters in the country. The local Quad-A raised gave out 35 scholarships last year, more than any other chapter in the nation.

The $2,000 scholarship is to help towards a college education.

Col. Kevin Christensen, Chapter President said, “Just to put it in perspective, since we began our scholarship program, we have awarded over $4.5 million to soldiers and family members.”

Quad-A holds two events to raise money for the scholarships. The first was a chili cook-off and 5-K race that was held earlier this year. And the second is a golf tournament coming up on March 20th and 22nd.
