This story was updated at 2:02 p.m. on Monday with information from the Barbour County Sheriff's Office.
A suspect has been identified in Sunday night’s standoff.
The Barbour County Sheriff’s Office needs the public’s help to find Cason Helms. The 28-year-old’s last known address was in Ozark, however, authorities are unsure if he is still living there. Helms is 6-feet tall and weighs 165 pounds.
Police believe that Helms was under the influence of narcotics when he began shooting near Lonnie Wilson Road. A resident called police and as authorities responded, they passed Helm’s car on the highway which began the police chase.
Helms was allegedly firing a handgun at police when he wrecked his truck. He then fled the scene.
A woman taken into custody has since been released. She was originally thought to be connected to Helms, but authorities are now unsure if she was a willing participant. At this time she has not been charged, but she is still being investigated.
Anyone with information on Helms’ whereabouts is asked to contact the Barbour County Jail at 334-775-3434. Barbour County is currently leading the investigation; Dale County is also assisting.
The search is on for a driver who led authorities on a high speed chase and fired shots at a deputy.
The pursuit began in Barbour County at about 7:30pm Sunday night.
A sheriff's deputy tried to stop a driver believed to have been involved in a drive-by shooting earlier in the evening.
The suspect fled and fired shots.
He then wrecked in a field near Highway 105 and Highway 10.

The suspect ran into the woods.
More than two dozen officers came out to search for him.
This included county units, state troopers, a tracking team, and two helicopters.
Sheriff Leroy Upshaw of the Barbour County Sheriff's office said, “We really appreciate how quick they came and helped out. Anytime an officer is being shot at we consider that very important. Most of the time we'll come and help if an officer is under fire. It's a dangerous situation, especially knowing he's armed and in the woods. He could've possibly gotten a ride out here on the highway.”
The search was scaled back just after midnight.
Police are not releasing the suspect's name.
But he is described as a white male, about 6 feet tall with brownish red hair.
He was last seen wearing black shoes, black shorts, and no shirt.
He is believed to be armed.
