Jury Selection Underway in 2006 Dothan Murder Trial

DOTHAN, AL - Jury selection started Monday in the capital murder trial of Marcus Rivers.

Rivers is accused of shooting and killing Patrick Dixon during a robbery in 2006. It happened near the intersection of Hamilton Street and Third Avenue in Dothan.

A second person was wounded in the incident. Rivers faces other felony charges related to the crime.

If convicted, Rivers faces life in prison without parole. Under Alabama law, Rivers cannot be sentenced to die because a judge ruled him mentally challenged.

Two other men were charged in connection with Dixon's death. Everett Morton was convicted and sentenced to life in prison without parole. Michael James pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 30 years.
