July 4th Weekend Bring Lots of Traffic

You can always expect excitement involved with the fourth of July holiday but also those traveling to see fireworks can also expect lots of traffic.

AAA expects 41 million Americans to be on the road this holiday weekend and a good handful of them are coming through the circle city. A significant increase of traffic has already picked up in the Dothan area since Wednesday afternoon. Alabama state troopers say U.S. Route 431 and U.S. Route 231 are the most busiest highways during the holiday weekend. There will also be an increase of state troopers patrolling on the road to help with the flow of traffic.

"Late in the afternoon, anywhere from 3pm-5pm. That's when there is an increase. Because you've got the locals that are getting off of work who are traveling the roadways as well along with those from out of state who are traveling through to get down to the beach," said Alabama State Trooper Kevin Cook.

Troopers will also be cracking down on impaired drivers this weekend. If you do plan on drinking, state troopers say have a designated driver available. Troopers also urge drivers to check the maintenance on their cars before getting on the road.
