The judge assigned to Center Stage's most recent case is refusing to step down.
The Houston Economic Development Association, or HEDA, filed a motion for Circuit Judge Michael Conaway to recuse himself from the case which involves the confiscation of electronic bingo machines and cash.
The entertainment complex was raided in July. Three local judges have recused themselves from the case.
HEDA cited "pervasive media coverage and resultant public discourse" as reasons Conaway should step down.
But Conaway says, "There are no facts alleged which would show this court has any bias, hostility or prejudice."
On Thursday, Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange blasted HEDA in a 36-page document. It was in response to the organization's motion to dismiss a forfeiture proceeding in district court. Part of that document says the Houston County Commission had no authority to pass rules and regulations regarding bingo operations.
