Judge Denies Bond in Ga. Hospital Shooting Case

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) -- A judge has denied bond for the man arrested in a deadly shooting at a hospital in Augusta.

The Augusta Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/TYHB09 ) the decision followed a bond hearing Friday in which new details emerged about the family dispute authorities say led to last month's shooting.

Charged in the case is 85-year-old Charles Gorrell. The man who was killed was Gorrell's nephew, 59-year-old Tim Grooms.

The newspaper reports Gorrell's wife was hospitalized at the time for pneumonia.

Assistant District Attorney Keith Johnson says Gorrell was upset that his nephew had power of attorney for his wife and objected to decisions his nephew had made about his wife's care.

Attorney William Sussman says Gorrell has provided a different account of what the attorney called "a tragic situation involving two families."
