LUVERNE – On Tuesday, June 18, Crenshaw County Probate Judge Jim Perdue (R) stood alongside his supporters and formally announced his candidacy to become Alabama’s next Secretary of State.

Perdue has served as Probate Judge of Crenshaw County since 2002. In addition to his service as Probate Judge, Perdue has served as the president of the Crenshaw County Chamber of Commerce, the Crenshaw County Historical Society, vice-chairman of the State Private Industry Council, the president of the Alabama Probate Judges Association, and the South Central Alabama Development Commission.

“I am delighted about the opportunity to travel throughout Alabama over the coming months and share my vision with the people of this great state” Perdue said in a statement. “I feel that my service as a probate judge for over a decade uniquely qualifies me to serve as Secretary of State.”

Perdue joins State Representative John Merrill (R – Tuscaloosa) as the only two candidates who have formally declared their intentions to seek the office of Secretary of State. Primary elections are scheduled for June 3, 2014.
