The World Meteorological Organization is dropping the names Ingrid for Atlantic storms and Manuel for eastern North Pacific storms because of the death and destruction they caused in Mexico in 2013.
Ingrid was a Category 1 hurricane that had weakened to a tropical storm when it made landfall south of La Pesca in northeastern Mexico in mid-September. Manuel hit the western coast of Mexico near Pichilinguillo around the same time.
Rain and mudslides from the two storms caused widespread destruction in Mexico. Ingrid is blamed for 32 deaths, Manuel an estimated 123.
