Dothan city school board members discuss possible employee incentives for teachers.
Although nothing is set in stone, the incentive program would allow the school system to recruit and keep exceptional teachers in schools that are located in poverty areas. The incentives will give teachers a bonus for joining poverty stricken schools. Incentives could possibly cover a moving reimbursement.
"It would make me feel like I'm being supported you know by the school board and the superintendent. To know that they're going to help me try to find the best teachers for the job and if we can offer some type of incentive to do that, I'm all for it," said Charles Corbitt, the principal at Girard Middle School.
Discussion of employee incentives are still premature. School board members will continue to research this topic before a final decision is made.
