Immigrants Hold Vigil Outside Gov. Bentley's State of the State Address

MONTGOMERY, Alabama -- Immigrant families and supporters held a candlelight vigil tonight outside the Alabama Capitol during Gov. Robert Bentley's State of the State speech.

More than 100 members and supporters of the Alabama Coalition for Immigrant Justice participated in the quiet vigil. Children brought paper flowers to give to lawmakers.

"Our families are connected to all families in Alabama and we want to contribute to our community," said Natividad Gonzales of Clanton.

"We ask that the governor and state leaders respect our families," Gonzales said.

Participants said they wanted to speak out for immigration reform on a federal level and against Alabama's stringent anti-immigration law.
