Hurricane Emilia forms in the Pacific

Emilia has strengthened to a hurricane in the Pacific south of Mexico, but is not posing a threat to land.

The hurricane's maximum sustained winds early Monday are near 75 mph (120 kph) with additional strengthening expected.

Emilia is centered about 760 miles (1,225 kilometers) south of the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California and is moving west-northwest near 12 mph (19 kph).

Meanwhile, farther west, Hurricane Daniel is weakening. The hurricane's maximum sustained winds are near 90 mph (150 kph). The hurricane is expected to weaken to a tropical storm by Monday night.
